The Health Sciences Centre will receive 1950 doses of Pfizer’s new COVID-19 vaccine next week with another shipment coming the following week.

Newfoundland and Labrador is one of 14 vaccine distributions sites announced by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau yesterday.

Premier Andrew Furey says two thermal shippers are scheduled to arrive in the province later this week. The Pfizer vaccine must be shipped at a temperature of -70 degrees.

Chief Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Janice Fitzgerald says protocols are in place to determine who will get the vaccine first.

She says there are specifications on how it has to be rolled out, the details of which are coming.

Details on the greater roll-out of the vaccine in 2021 will be revealed as the province gets a better picture of what kind and how many vaccine doses will be available.
